We have the responsibility of increasing the recyclability of our printing solutions and providing assistance to our customer on end-of-life solution, environmental responsibility is only one aspect of Markem-Imaje’s overall sustainability program.

E-waste/ WEEE Management

Markem-Imaje Complies with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 / 2022 and its amendments. As part of Extended Producers' Responsibility, Markem-Imaje has set up a collection mechanism to channel and dispose of e-waste through authorized recyclers.

As a Producer Markem-Imaje collects all kind of E waste that have become obsolete, non-working or have essentially reached the end of their useful life.

As per E-waste Rule 2016 / 2022, the E waste defined as ‘electrical and electronic equipment, whole or in part discarded as waste by the consumer or bulk consumer as well as rejects from manufacturing, refurbishment and repair processes.

E-waste contains many valuable, recoverable materials such as aluminium, copper, gold, silver, plastics, and ferrous metals. In order to conserve natural resources and the energy needed to produce new electronic equipment from virgin resources, electronic equipment can be refurbished, reused, and recycled instead of being landfilled.

E-waste may also contain toxic and hazardous materials / substances including mercury, lead, cadmium, beryllium, chromium, PPB’s, PPBD’s and chemical flame retardants, which have the potential to leach into our soil and water. Therefore, require specific treatment delivered by authorized dismantlers/ recyclers.

What does this mean for our customers? 

The Rules places responsibilities on consumer and bulk consumer of electrical and electronic equipment listed in Schedule I (refer E waste rules) to ensure that e-waste generated by them is channelled through collection centers or dealer of authorized producer, dismantler, recycler or through the designated takeback service provider of the producer to authorized dismantler or recycler.

In addition, bulk consumers are required to 1) maintain records of e-waste generated by them in a format provided in the Rules and make it available for scrutiny by competent authorities and 2) file Annual Returns to the State Pollution Control Boards.

Our customers will be able to return their obsolete Electrical and Electronic products to Markem-Imaje, in accordance with our producer responsibility mechanism. As a customer you can also choose to bring your old electronic equipment through Markem-Imaje Consumer Take back Services.

We have tied up with authorized recyclers to recycle/ dispose waste in an environmentally friendly way.

Recycling of E-waste

The company has tied -up with the E-waste Recyclers for collection of all our E-waste on PAN India and disposes the same at their recycling plant.

Once a customer raises their request for E waste pickup either though toll-free number or email. Their representative will explain them about process of disposal and make them aware about nearest drop point available to drop the e-waste. If any customer wants to handover the material from their premises, we can send either our logistics team or E-waste Solutions team to collect the items and channel the same to our e-waste partner plant for final processing.

Do’s & Dont’s

Do’s:

• Always look for information on the catalogue with your product for end-of-life equipment handling.
• Ensure that only Authorized Recyclers handles your electronic products.
• Always call our E-waste Authorized Collection Centers/points to Dispose products that have reached end-of life.
• Always drop your used electronic products or any electronic/electrical accessories when they reach the end of their life at your nearest Authorized E-Waste Collection Centers/Points.
• Always disconnect the battery from product and ensure any glass surface is protected against breakage.

• Prefer to pack the equipment to protect handler from cuts due to any sharp edges.

Don’ts:

• Do not dismantle your electronic Products on your own
• Do not give e-waste to informal (Kabbadi) and unorganized sectors like Local Scrap Dealer/ Rag Pickers.
• Do not dispose your product in garbage bins along with municipal waste that ultimately reaches landfills.

Collection and channelization of e-waste: The following collection & channelization process shall be followed by Markem Imaje for Environment friendly disposal of E- waste collected from the our various customers through an authorized recycler.
